Monitoring was carried out at Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, between August 2008 and January 2009 along the route of the proposed Enniskerry water supply scheme on behalf of Nicholas O’Dwyer Ltd. This programme of monitoring follows on from testing carried out in March and April 2007 (Excavations 2007, No. 2008, 07E0169).
A continuous archaeological presence was kept throughout all topsoil-stripping within greenfield areas at Killegar reservoir site and within the southern section of Pipeline A in the townland of Fassaroe. Intermittent monitoring was undertaken over the course of construction for all other areas of the proposed pipelines subject to previous disturbance, due to their route being within existing roads. Specific attention was paid to the excavation works carried out within the RMP constraints for WI003–032 (a ruined church), WI003–031 (a monastery site) and WI003–030 (an earthwork site). Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during monitoring works.
