Monitoring of topsoil-stripping in advance of the development of Phase 2 was undertaken in June 2008. Two sites were identified during the monitoring.
Area 12 was an isolated pit filled with burnt-mound material of uncertain date (but probably Bronze Age, considering its proximity to Areas 7 and 8, excavated during Phase 1 works (Excavations 2006, No. 2171, 06E0552). The pit was excavated prior to further groundworks.
Area 13 was a location similar to the previously excavated Iron Age settlement site Area 6, consisting of at least one, apparently unenclosed, double-ring round house (c. 8.5m diameter) of very shallow concentric post-holes, with a central hearth and a porch/vestibule to the south-east. Another archaeological consultancy was contracted by the developer to undertake excavation of Area 13, the processing of a soil sample from Area 12 and subsequent monitoring on the development.
