Four trenches were excavated to the rear and side of existing dwellings along the main street of Ferns, Co. Wexford. Layers of modern dump material and topsoils were recorded in the top 0.4m of stratigraphy. These dump layers lay on natural subsoil that was comprised of orange/brown hard stony clay. Blue patterned porcelain pottery was noted in the trenches as well as modern rubbish, stones and red brick. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during the testing.
