2008:1251 - ATHLONE: 45 Connaught Street, Westmeath

A single test-trench was excavated within the rear yard of No. 45 Connaught Street, Athlone, Co Westmeath, in the area of a proposed basement. The site is located outside of the walled medieval town of Athlone (WM029–042). The site yard was covered in a thin layer of black tarmac which had been laid above a very thick layer of post-medieval demolition rubble and lay directly above the natural coarse grey gravel and stone. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed and no finds were recovered.
