Contract 5 of the Waterford main drainage scheme was situated on the eastern edge of Waterford city on the north side of the River Suir. Monitoring of all subsurface works on the scheme was completed in July 2008, on behalf of Waterford City Council.
The monitored groundworks for Contract 5 consisted of marine dredging works in advance of the construction of the Bellview outfall, which was laid from the north shore of the River Suir to the point of discharge at the confluence of the Queen’s Channel and King’s Channel north-east of Little Island. This also required a tunnel crossing of the railway track on the north bank of the River Suir. Nothing of archaeological significance was revealed during the course of monitoring.
