This site was investigated as part of the proposed corridor improvements of the line of the A4 between Dungannon and Ballygawley where 15km of new road will be constructed. A total of 43 SMR sites lie within 500m of either side of the new road alignments. In general these sites date to the Early Christian period, with many raths, enclosures and a number of ecclesiastical sites represented.
Area 46 was located at the edge of a boggy area between Chainages 10100 and 10130 measuring c. 30m by 30m. The north-western area was occupied by several modern, partially connected, drains with north–south orientations, encircling a small spread of charcoal and burnt stones. Three separate spreads of burnt-mound material were uncovered in the central parts of the area. A (Neolithic?) flint arrowhead was discovered at the southern edge of one of the spreads. A group of five medium to small pits containing large amounts of charcoal were excavated uphill, at the north-eastern corner of the site. These were preliminarily interpreted as rubbish pits.
