Area 22 was located between Chainages 3000 and 3150 and was investigated as part of the proposed corridor improvements of the line of the A4 between Dungannon and Ballygawley where 15km of new road will be constructed. Situated in an area of archaeological sensitivity, there are several sites of archaeological interest in the nearby environs, the closest of which are a prehistoric standing stone, a rath and an enclosure.
This site was an extension to Headland Archaeology Site 28 at Kilawlter, directly west of an exclusion zone. The site consisted of the continuation of the enclosing ditch, which measured 3.5m wide and 1.5m deep. Upcast from the ditch had sealed a small pit. In addition a subrectangular feature measuring 2m by 5m was excavated and continued beyond the road-take.
