Monitoring was undertaken at a development site located at Two-Mile-Borris, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. The development comprises the renovation and extension of a dwelling and the construction of a replacement garage to the rear of an existing shed/garage. The site is located within the zone of archaeological potential established for Two-Mile-Borris, a former medieval borough. The archaeological zone includes four individual monuments, including a tower-house, church site and graveyard, grave-slab and ringwork. The latter is located immediately adjacent the rear western boundary of the overall development site.
All topsoil-stripping/general ground-reduction works on to the surface of the underlying ‘natural’ sterile subsoil was monitored. In addition, limited inspections of the foundation trenches took place. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered.
