Test excavation took place in advance of a new convent home in the grounds of Parkmore Convent, New Line, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. The site was located 300m west-south-west of the urban archaeological zone of Roscrea.
A feature of low archaeological potential was identified in previous assessment (December 2007) and formed part of the focus of the test excavation. The feature revealed itself as a probable Victorian quarry. However, no materials of any period were retrieved from this feature. The testing identified that the site was levelled (scarped into the hillside to east) and soil imported, possibly for the purposes of grazing, as no evidence of plough activities were encountered. The test excavation revealed that if there had been any deposits of archaeological value on the site, they had been removed during the Victorian period.
