The site was investigated by means of three cuttings, each measuring 6m by 4m, with a further six small slot-trenches situated between the main cuttings. It was found to be a brushwood and roundwood trackway, running north-west to south-east for 38m. The trackway was up to 4m wide and constructed from roughly trimmed wood, laid transversely and fixed into place with occasional pegs. The trackway seems to have been constructed in a rough and ready manner, with no evidence that much care was taken in selecting and preparing the wood used. This, together with the short length, suggests that it was built to provide local access into the bog rather than a route across it. Results from sampling carried out during the 2006 survey indicated that the wood species used included betula (birch) and alnus (alder). A radiocarbon date of 360 bc to 50 ad was also returned.
