A pre-development test excavation was undertaken on 14 June 2008 on a greenfield site at Quinlisk’s Cross, Co. Tipperary. The proposed development was for two bungalows and associated siteworks. The constraint area of a ringfort (TN023–036) encompasses the north-east portion of the site of the proposed development. An oval enclosure, probably a ringfort, is shown on the OS maps of 1840 and 1904. The ringfort (site) is located on the high ground at the eastern portion of the field and a raised area outlines the extent of the site.
The site was assessed on the basis of five mechanically excavated test-trenches, each of which had similar stratigraphy, consisting of topsoil overlying orange/brown subsoil. No features or materials of archaeological significance were encountered during the excavation of the test-trenches.
