This site is located on one of the approach roads into Fethard, south of the Clashawley River. Although presently a vacant plot, documentary research revealed that a building, fronting the road, occupied the site during the middle of the 19th century. Two trenches were opened on the site of a proposed house, also the site of the previous building. Apart from a thin lens of mortar no evidence was found associated with any building activity. However, the mortar seems to have been dumped at this location, rather than being part of a designated floor. No foundation material or trenches were encountered in either of the openings. This suggests the building was constructed directly off a ground surface once the site had been stripped of topsoil. No archaeological features/remains were encountered in the course of the testing works.
