Monitoring of engineers’ test-pits for a proposed residential development took place in a greenfield area on the southern side of the River Suir at Croan Lower, Clonmel. The site was located on a parcel of land sandwiched between the river and Colville Road, with the assessed portion of the site being the lands to the west of Millbrook House (a Victorian-style dwelling which is not a listed or protected structure). The monitoring took place from 12 to 23 May 2008. Nothing of an archaeological nature was encountered in the course of monitoring geotechnical groundworks and engineering test-pits. Due to the very limited nature of the groundworks to date, the site still retains archaeological potential that may be uncovered should construction phase occur.
