Six test-trenches were opened on the imprint of a proposed house at Kilross townland. The site is within the constraint area for an ecclesiastical site. The nearest trench to Kilross Church and graveyard was located 6.8m east of the boundary wall of the graveyard, whilst the other test-trenches ranged between 16m and 60m from the boundary wall of the graveyard.
The only feature of note was a series of agricultural furrows criss-crossing two test-trenches. These were equidistant, with parallel straight sides and uniform width. It is considered, due to their spacing and dimensions, that they reflected ploughing practices of post-medieval date.
In four test-trenches opened bedrock occurred very close to the surface, ranging from between 0.2–0.36m. These openings, with the exception of the north-east end of Trench 1, occurred along the higher part of the site; i.e. across the east–west-aligned ridge, which extends along the southern part of the site. No archaeological features/remains were uncovered in the course of testing works.
