A non-disturbance assessment of a 345m section of Lough Ree, Portrunny, Co. Roscommon, was undertaken. The assessment was carried out prior to the proposed insertion of a 1.2km-long outfall pipeline as part of the Portrunny wastewater treatment scheme. The current assessment represents the second underwater survey undertaken as part of the proposed development and is concentrated upon the area of proposed pipeline realignment between Chainage 055 and Chainage 400. The pipeline between Chainage 400 and Chainage 1500 remains unchanged from the original pipeline route that was previously assessed by ADCO in February 2008 (see No. 1040 above).
Systematic visual inspection of the lakebed impact area was undertaken. In addition a metal-detection survey was undertaken across a realignment area. No archaeologically significant material, deposits, or structures were revealed within the survey area. The work was carried out on 27 August 2008.
