Cloontuskert Bog is situated 2.5km to the north-west of Lanesborough, on the west side of the River Shannon. The bog is composed of Cloontuskert, Cloonadra (Moher), Moher, Erenagh and Grannaghan bogs. Grannaghan Bog is located to the east of the R371 and is accessed by an unclassified road that connects the R371 with the N5, to the north-east. Mountdillon and Derrycashel Bogs are located to the south-east and east, respectively. The remaining portions of the bog are bounded to the east by the R371 and on the west by an unclassified road. They are accessed by a laneway that runs from the unclassified road to the west.
A total of five archaeological sites were recorded, all in Grannaghan Bog. They consisted of two plank trackways (RO-GRN001 and RO-GRN003), two sightings of archaeological wood (RO-GRN002 and RO-GRN004) and one possible platform (RO-GRH005). The trackways and deposits of archaeological wood were located in proximity to each other close to the western edge of the bog. The possible platform was found in isolation in the centre of the bog.
