2008:985 - Harbourville House, Stameen, Meath

Monitoring took place of groundworks at a site at Harbourville House, Drogheda, conducted initially by Eoin Corcoran and then by Ros Ó Maoldúin between July and October 2008. The site at Harbourville House Offices, Stameen, Mornington, Co. Meath, is located on the bank of the Boyne River estuary approximately halfway between Drogheda and Mornington to the north of the R150 Drogheda to Mornington road. The proposed development consists of the demolition of a building and construction of a new building on the same site, the refurbishment of a building and the provision and upgrade of associated services, car parking and landscaping. The site is 0.82ha in total area.
Several service trenches and foundation pads were excavated; the majority of the trenches measured 0.7–0.8m in width and 0.7m in depth from the modern ground surface, while the foundation pads measured 2m in width by in excess of 1m in depth. The stratigraphy was fairly uniform across the site, with the upper 0.1m of excavated material composed of either sod or concrete overlying c. 0.4m of loose mortar-flecked grey/brown sandy soil, which in turn overlay c. 0.2m of darker silty soil containing brick, plastic and other modern debris. This silty layer overlay sterile yellow sand. No subsurface features were revealed during groundworks.
