A pre-development assessment that included the excavation of nine trenches was undertaken on the proposed site of a new GAA pitch for Nobber Gaelic Football Club in December 2008. The site lay at the edge of the present and medieval village of Nobber.
The assessment revealed the survival of an extensive prehistoric burnt mound, a later ditch and medieval properties which contained a building and a number of kilns. The site of a holy well (Tobernanmuc) also lay within the site but proved to contain nothing of significance
The site was excavated in 2009 in advance of development.
