Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of a boundary wall was undertaken as a condition of planning on behalf of McKevitt Architects and AIB, Ashbourne. The development consisted of the removal of mature trees and construction of a boundary wall between the AIB bank and the adjacent church and graveyard. The development is in proximity to Killegland Castle and a medieval church site (ME045–005; ME045–004).
The site was located to the rear of the bank on Main Street. Monitoring of excavation associated with the development was carried out on 1 and 4 March 2008. Excavation encompassed a single foundation trench measuring 40m long and 1.1m wide. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
