Additional test-trenching was carried out along sections of the proposed route of the M3 Clonee to North of Kells road scheme, Contract 2, in County Meath on behalf of Meath County Council National Roads Design Office and the National Roads Authority. This additional work was carried out in the townlands of Ardsallagh, Dowdstown, Lismullin, and Skreen (Areas 1–6). The areas at Ardsallagh and Lismullin were not previously assessed during the initial phase of assessment works as access was not permitted into these woodland sites. Additional works were carried out in the townlands of Dowdstown and Skreen (Areas 1–6) in order to determine the archaeological significance of anomalies detected as a result of additional geophysical surveys carried out in spring 2007. These additional surveys were carried out where no archaeological features were discovered during the initial phase of assessment works in spring/summer 2004. Trenches were excavated using a tracked machine equipped with a 2m-wide toothless ditching bucket. No features of archaeological significance were identified and no finds were recovered.
