Testing was carried out in advance of development for a single dwelling and associated services at Rathkip, Ballina. The site lies in close proximity to the marked location for MA030–076, an enclosure. The enclosure is no longer clearly visible on the ground and it would seem from cartographic evidence and site inspection that the site has been levelled during construction of an adjacent dwelling. There was a possibility that a portion of the enclosure survived within the footprint of the eastern portion of the proposed development. Eleven test-trenches were excavated within the footprint of this development. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered during testing on this site.
