A proposed mixed development of dwellings and shops in a flat field of 1.2 acres at Cloonlaur, Louisburgh, lay directly across the road from an early ecclesiastical enclosure. Work had commenced illegally and the results of this had initially to be assessed. Following on from this, 22 test-trenches were excavated throughout the field. The only features evident were 20th-century stone-lined field drains within the boulder clay. A low hummock, evident near the centre of the field pre-testing, turned out to be the remnants of a field fence.
