The site is situated less than 1km from Belcarra village south-east of Castlebar. The townland name comes from the Irish Baile an Leasa or town of the fort or lios. There are four enclosures listed in the townland. Two of these are adjacent to the proposed development, including MA090–013. Six test-trenches were mechanically excavated. Disturbance to natural stratigraphy was evident in the 3 easternmost trenches where some glacial till was mixed with subsoil and lower topsoil. This may have been the result of ploughing or levelling of the slope of the field. Disturbance in the front of the site as evidenced in T6 was due to modern activity. There were no features or finds of an archaeological nature discovered during testing.
