Testing was undertaken prior to the construction of a proposed residential development in Faughart Upper, Dundalk, Co. Louth. This followed on from a desk-top assessment, geophysical survey and Phase 1 testing by Fintan Walsh (IAC Ltd) (see No. 843 above, 07E0917), which involved the excavation of two trenches.
Phase 2 test-trenching commenced at the site on 3 June 2008 and lasted for four days. A total of 71 trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area, which measured c. 3.49 hectares. No features or finds of archaeological significance were identified in any of the test-trenches opened, although features identified during Phase 1 of testing are of archaeological interest.
