Monitoring of groundworks associated with a development at Wolfe Tone Street, Kilmallock, was carried out over a number of days. Previous testing of the site under the same licence revealed the presence of the subsurface town wall of which a total length of c. 24m was exposed (Excavations 2005, No. 1000). Monitoring of all groundworks was subsequently requested as a condition of planning permission. To date monitoring of the excavation of raft foundations, boundary walls, entrance, driveway and carpark has been carried out. Three large stones which may represent the remains of a portion of the medieval town wall were exposed at the north-west side of the site, adjacent to the public footpath. The stones were left in situ and were covered with a geotextile, fine gravel and stone. No further archaeological finds of features have been uncovered and work is on going at the site.
