Test-trenching was undertaken in advance of a Limerick County Council housing scheme. The development area was located to the north-west of Askeaton, outside the medieval town. Test-trenches were excavated across all proposed house plots. The average depth of the topsoil, a mid-brown silty clay, was 0.25m. No features or finds of archaeological significance were found.
