The site of the proposed development is located c. 4km north of Carrick-on-Shannon, 1.5km west of the R280 Carrick-on-Shannon to Manorhamilton road, within the townland of Cartown, Kiltoghert, Co. Leitrim. The proposed development site consists of a one-acre field, sloping north-east/south-west from the top of a low hill to a small stream which forms the south-west boundary. The proposed development site is situated 30m to the north-east of LE027–101, a poorly preserved D-shaped ringfort/enclosure barely visible on the ground. The site was under medium grass at the time of the site inspection and no further earthworks or potential aboveground archaeological features were observed. The excavation of five test-trenches across the proposed development site has revealed no evidence of archaeological activity within the footprint of the proposed development.
