A second phase of test-trenching was carried out in a greenfield site on the outskirts of Knocktopher village in May 2008. This was in order to establish the extent of a concentration of archaeological features uncovered in the north-east quadrant of the field during test-trenching in 2007 (Excavations 2007, No. 983). This concentration included a burial of probable post-medieval date and a number of pits and post-holes of unknown date. The layout of the proposed housing development in the field has been designed in order to avoid the area containing the identified archaeological features and monitoring of groundworks during construction was recommended.
