The proposed development site was the proposed permanent spoil storage location as part of work for the N9/N10 road scheme. The site was located in the townland of Knockmoylan, Co. Kilkenny, and covered four fields which were near the remains of Knockmoylan castle.
The topsoil was removed from Field A using a bulldozer, although the field was not stripped down to the natural subsoil, and spoil was deposited across the field. Field B was used as a temporary spoil storage area and the topsoil was therefore not removed. Field C was monitored and no archaeological features were identified. Field D was not needed to store spoil on and therefore was not stripped.
