Monitoring was carried out in a section of the existing N24 road located to the south of Granny Castle during construction of a tie-in with the N25 Waterford city bypass. This section of the N24 road had been widened and realigned during the latter half of the 20th century and is below existing ground level with a cut along the road margin closest to Granny Castle. The removal of the modern road fill on the south side of the road was monitored and nothing of archaeological significance was identified in the underlying sterile glacial till.
