Kilkenny County Council requested an impact assessment at Gorteen, Skeaghvasteen, Co. Kilkenny, as further information in advance of a decision on a planning application for a residential development. The site lay within the area of constraint for KK025–021, a holy well. The well was positioned towards the north-east corner of the development area and is marked on the second-edition OS map as Tobarkyle or ‘well of the church’. This is probably a reference to Skeoghvasteen church, located 50m to the east. Testing failed to uncover anything of archaeological significance within the cuttings opened.
