Testing was carried out in order to meet conditions attached to planning permission sought for a mixed-use development of houses, apartments, retail and commercial offices at Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny. The site is located c. 100m north-west of the zone of archaeological potential of KK021–039.
Testing was limited to the greenfield area of the proposed development as a portion of the site was a working Glanbia depot, with frequent heavy goods traffic. The test-trenches that were located in the area surrounding the standing buildings and associated yards indicated significant disturbance as a result of construction. The ground level appeared to have been reduced below the standing buildings with considerable landscaping of the surrounding fields.
There were no areas of archaeological significance identified during the test excavations.
