Monitoring of ground-reduction works associated with the construction of a new calf shed was undertaken at Moone Abbey Farm. The site is situated 60m to the north of the partial extant remains of Moone Abbey (KD036–031), which contains a number of high crosses, and c. 45m to the west of a holy well site (KD036–043).
All topsoil-stripping was undertaken by machine fitted with a toothless ditching bucket, following which the subsoil was removed to the required levels by machine fitted with a toothed bucket. No features or deposits of archaeological interest were uncovered during the course of the work. However, five sherds of pottery, four of which are of probable medieval date, were recovered from the topsoil horizon.
