An assessment was based on testing carried out as part of a request for further information prior to a grant of planning permission. The site lies in close proximity to the northern edge of the historic town of Castledermot, KD038–045, and lies within the constraint circle of St John’s Well, KD038–053. The site lies to the north of Castledermot town and to the east of the Dublin–Carlow road. It is bounded to the east by the River Lerr.
Testing was undertaken on 3–6 March 2008. In total seventeen trenches were opened with a mechanical excavator fitted with a 2m-wide toothless bucket. A combined length of 670m was excavated. The area that comprised the farmyard is still in use and was not available to be tested. The programme of test-trenching did not identify any features or material of archaeological significance.
