Testing was carried out as part of the Kildare Water Strategy along the route of a proposed pipeline (500m in length) as it passes through the RMP constraint surrounding Ardscull Motte, a national monument. The N78 bypasses the motte to the immediate east, and a section of the proposed pipeline will be laid under this road. The trench, which measured 500m in length, possessed a minimum depth of 0.8m and a maximum depth of 1.3m. Debris associated with the construction of the N78 was present along the length of the trench. This was placed directly on to sterile natural subsoils. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during the testing exercise.
