Pre-development testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed extension to Scoil Mhuire National School, Moyderwell, Tralee. The school is located within the zone of archaeological potential for the medieval town of Tralee (KE029–119) as defined in the Urban Archaeological Survey for County Kerry. The proposed development was for an extension to the north-east gable of the school, where it will extend into an area currently forming part of the school playground. It involved the reduction of the existing ground level by almost 1m. Three test-trenches were placed across those areas of the schoolyard to be subjected to ground disturbance and excavation revealed a number of layers of modern infill material. All of the recovered finds were 20th-century in date and no traces of archaeological deposits were exposed.
