Monitoring of Phase 4 of the groundworks at Rangue, Killorglin, Co. Kerry, was carried out on 25–29 February 2008. The site consists of 5.2ha of land, much of which is covered by a blanket bog. The development involves the phased clearance and excavation of a sand and gravel quarry. Although no archaeological features have been located on the site in the course of previous phases of monitoring by Sinclair Turrell (ADS Ltd) (Excavations 2004, No. 777; Excavations 2005, No. 706), the large nature of the development necessitates monitoring of all groundworks.
Phase 4 involved the stripping of sod and topsoil from the central area of the quarry. This area measured c. 60m east–west by 200m. Nothing of archaeological significance was discovered as a result of this phase of the works.
