An impact assessment including a test excavation was carried out at Kilfallinga, Farranfore, Killarney, Co. Kerry. It formed part of the application for planning permission to construct a slatted unit in a pasture field adjacent to a farmyard. The development site is located at the end of a narrow cul de sac to the immediate west of the Tralee–Mallow railway line and the surrounding environment is one of relatively flat pastoral landscape with small fields enclosed by earthen hedgerows. Two monuments are located to the south-west of the proposed slatted unit including a standing stone (KE039–014) and a boulder burial (KE039–015). Three test-trenches were placed along the footprint of the proposed farm building. These were excavated to a level on to the natural boulder clay and no features of archaeological significance were noted in the investigated areas.
