Pre-development testing was carried out of a proposed development site at Fieries village, Co. Kerry, on 27 and 28 March, 2008. The proposed development has outline planning permission for 23 dwellings and full planning permission for all roads, services, green areas, connection to proposed foul sewer and all associated siteworks and ancillary services.
Extensive and systematic test excavation undertaken in the area of proposed development identified three localised areas of archaeological activity in the northern section of the site. These comprised the remains of three fulachta fíadh or burnt mounds.
