Works were completed in advance of the laying of a storm drain for the new Dingle Hospital. Monitoring had been previously undertaken by Michael Connolly of Kerry County Council, who subsequently requested the excavation of the uncovered archaeological deposits.
During the excavation the remains of two shallow burnt mounds were recorded in the trench for the storm drain, one of which had been disturbed by modern activity. A pit identified during monitoring was revealed to be non-archaeological upon excavation. Three features were also excavated c. 450m to the north-east of the burnt mounds. One of these was proven to be archaeological in nature.
