An assessment, including pre-development testing of the proposed development site at Crag, Farranfore, Co. Kerry, was undertaken in response to a request for further information laid down by Kerry County Council. The proposed development site is currently a greenfield site. There is one known archaeological monument, an enclosure (KE048–011), listed in the RMP within the site, which also falls within the ZAP of another monument. A small section of the site boundary at the north-east corner is formed by the outer bank of a bivallate ringfort (KE048–014). A site inspection undertaken in November 2007 identified a horseshoe-shaped fulacht fiadh.
Ninety-two test-trenches were excavated across the site. A number of areas of archaeological interest were identified within the test-trenches. These include four fulachta fiadh, two small areas of burning and two areas in which there were post- and stake-holes.
