The site is located in the zone of potential for an enclosure, and was tested in advance of a proposed dwelling house. A slightly perceptible low earthen bank was noted c. 12m north-east of the proposed house site. The remainder of the enclosure was not extant. The bank, orientated north-north-west to south-south-east, was 0.2m high and ran for a length of c. 7m. It is possible that this forms part of the low western bank of the monument. The trenching did not impact this bank. The general stratigraphy of the four trenches excavated consisted of a 0.3m deep layer of topsoil overlying a 0.1m deep layer of peat. All trenches were excavated down to a shale bedrock layer. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted during the test-trenching.
