A proposed new house, shed and driveway at Ryehill, Lavally, Tuam, will come within 20m of a univallate rath on higher ground and eleven test-trenches were excavated. In Trench 11, closest to the nearby road, three roughly circular hollow pits were cut into the boulder clay but none contained definitive material or artefacts, and it is likely all were of archaeological significance. No feature or context showed up elsewhere and the only item of note from any trench was an inscribed (HYNES) clay pipe from the first half of the 20th century.
