Monitoring was carried out at Letterbrickaun, Leenane, Co. Galway, in 2008. The proposed development entails the construction of a sewerage treatment works and outfall pipe, as well as the construction of an access road to the treatment plant at Letterbrickaun. The development is close to GA012–003, a holy well, and five protected structures in the nearby village of Leenane.
Fieldwork was conducted between 24 and 30 September. The area measured 35m north–south and 30m wide, the access road measured 30m north–south and 5m wide. The area had been stripped of the overlying peat to the underlying substrate prior to monitoring being conducted. The spoil was mechanically spread out over a nearby field whilst being monitored by the author. Metal detection of this spoil was conducted on 21 October 2008 by Tamyln O’Driscoll. There were no archaeological deposits found during the monitoring or metal detection of the spoil.
