Phase 2 excavations along the 27.2km of the N18 Oranmore to Gort (Glenbrack to Rathmorrissey) National Road Scheme were commissioned by Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority.
An area measuring c. 400m2 was topsoil-stripped to reveal a spread of burnt-mound material that measured 8m by 6m and reached a maximum depth of 0.15m. The area surrounding the spread has been subjected to intensive land reclamation.
The excavation of burnt-mound material revealed two possible troughs. The first trough measured 3.4m east–west by 1.3m and had a maximum depth of 0.53m. The second measured 1.9m north to south by 1.4m and reached a maximum depth of 0.22m.
