Phase 2 excavations along the 27.2km of the N18 Oranmore to Gort (Glenbrack to Rathmorrissey) National Road Scheme were commissioned by Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority.
An area measuring c. 400m2 was topsoil-stripped to reveal a spread of burnt-mound material that reached a maximum depth of 0.2m. The excavation of burnt-mound material revealed a possible trough under the centre of the spread. The trough measured 2.65m north to south by 1.95m and had a maximum depth of 0.43m.
To the north-east of the trough two pits were excavated, but their function was unclear. The first pit measured 2.15m by 1.75m and reached a maximum depth of 0.3m. This was truncated by the second pit, which measured 2.4m by 2m and had a maximum depth of 0.32m.
