Phase 2 excavations along the 27.2km of the N18 Oranmore to Gort (Glenbrack to Rathmorrissey) National Road Scheme were commissioned by Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority.
An area measuring c. 300m2 was topsoil-stripped to reveal a spread of burnt-mound material that reached a maximum depth of 0.31m. The spread covered a possible trough recut and a possible earlier trough. The earliest trough measured 1.5m east to west by 1.1m and had a maximum depth of 0.37m. The second trough was rectangular in shape and measured 3.16m north to south by 2.66m and had a maximum depth of 0.37m. Directly to the north of these possible troughs was the cut of an oval-shaped well/spring, measuring 3.3m east to west by 2.74m, with a maximum depth of 0.67m.
