Phase 2 archaeological excavations along the 27.2km of the N18 Oranmore to Gort (Glenbrack to Rathmorrissey) National Road Scheme were commissioned by Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority.
An area 20m by 10m was topsoil-stripped to reveal five pits and a possible post-hole. The largest pit measured 2.75m long by 1.65m wide and had a maximum depth of 0.75m. The cut of this pit was oval in shape. Although all the fill of the pits was primarily charcoal there was no indication of in situ burning.
