Topsoil-stripping was monitored on the sites for two reservoirs and a temporary compound on behalf of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council. The pipelines associated with these reservoirs mostly followed existing roadways, but where they traversed greenfield sites the topsoil-stripping was also monitored. Much of the ground had already been disturbed by earlier building schemes nearby, but on one of the reservoir sites, in Woodside townland, two small burnt pits or hearths were found, 10m apart. One was irregular in shape and appeared to be a natural hollow in which burning had taken place. There were no finds, and no indication of purpose. In view of modern disturbance nearby, they may have been very recent.
