The proposed development site is located behind the Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary off Garter Lane in the centre of Saggart village. The placename ‘Saggart’ derives from the Irish Teach Saggard meaning ‘the house of the priest’ or ‘the house of Sacra/Sacre’. Garter Lane is the road from Saggart to the Royal Garter Stables on Naas Road. There are thirteen monuments (including the village of Saggart, DU021–034) listed within a 500m radius from the site. Of these thirteen sites, nine (DU021–034001–009) are located within the boundaries of the graveyard located north-west of the development site. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
